Please note:
All cities in Green are Mayors Adapt signatories.
All cities in Turquoise are signatories to the new Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy.
Cities in Turquoise that are marked with a * are signatories to both Mayors Adapt and the new Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy.

The Mayors Adapt and the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy initiatives are open to all local authorities that meet the following criteria:

  • Official status of a “local authority” such as a “city” or an organised “agglomeration”;
  • Democratically constituted with/by elected representatives;
  • Have an elected, political leader who can act on its behalf;
  • Must be located in the European Union (EU) territory; or in an EU Candidate or Potential Candidate, a European Free Trade Association or a southern Neighbourhood country*.

Current Mayors Adapt signatories come from 21 EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom) as well as from 3 other countries among EFTA and EU Candidates (Albania, Iceland and former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia).

Mayors Adapt Coordinators

The Mayors Adapt also counts on the active participation of regions, provinces and other such public authorities who can put their resources and know-how at the service of signatories. Recognised as “Mayors Adapt Coordinators” by the Commission, they will act as key allies in conveying the message and increasing the impact of the initiative – see more information in the agreement model here.

The Province of Barcelona (Spain) is the first Coordinator of the Mayors Adapt initiative! As a Coordinator the Province of Barcelona will provide Mayors Adapt signatories with strategic guidance, political and technical support to fulfil their commitments in developing their climate policies and management programmes.

The Province of Potenza (Italy) has also expressed its willingness in becoming a Mayors Adapt Coordinator.

Other interested authorities are the Region of Murcia (Spain), the Province of Antwerp (Belgium) and the Province of Venice (Italy).
